Announcing “Leo’s Daily Normal”: A New Project

I’m excited to introduce a new art and story project I’m developing: “Leo’s Daily Normal”

This will be an ongoing series, created in the style of an art book. It’s designed to be an educational resource that explores the lived experience of sleep disorders through a central character named Leo.

Available currently in English, Spanish, and Japanese are posted on my Patreon, perhaps other language versions to come!
[Please know that I did these translations using tools, I speak Spanish but I do not speak nor read Japaneses – so, I apologize for any language translation issues that may be there, the line breaks in Japanese text especially. If you find an issue, please feel free to reach out if you want to potentially help me to fix such – Thanks!]

Initially, we’ll follow Leo as a teenager. Each edition will walk through parts of his day, showing the different struggles and impacts he deals with. Just as importantly, it will also highlight his strengths. The real emphasis is to provide a window into the daily symptoms of sleep disorders like Narcolepsy, Sleep Apneas, and Delayed Sleep Phase Onset Syndrome/Disorder (as some examples) – showing how “normal” it all feels to him, yet how different it is from most people’s reality, and how constant and pervasive the impact can be.

This project is just beginning, and I’m intentionally keeping the direction open to let it evolve. This includes the art style itself; while I’ve created one edition and some conceptual images, the style is still preliminary and may be altered as the project finds its footing. While we’re starting with a “day in the life,” I’m exploring many future possibilities. For example, we might follow Leo’s journey toward diagnosis, relationships, see him learn to adapt his lifestyle, or even jump forwards and backwards in time. I’d like to show Leo as a young adult or as a child, illustrating how symptoms can morph and present differently as life changes. Another goal is to eventually create other language versions, starting with Spanish and Japanese, to make this resource more accessible.

For now, “Leo’s Daily Normal” is being developed as an exclusive project for my Patrons.

A major benefit of this is that the Patreon page will be our hub for collaboration. I genuinely welcome and encourage interactions, questions, suggestions, input, and feedback. Your insights will be invaluable in helping me shape the project and make the final product as strong and impactful as possible.

My goal is to create a new edition every month or two, life permitting. This is a way for me to share my expertise and lived experience to benefit others, while hopefully creating a sustainable way for me to thrive and continue my advocacy work.

Who knows? In time, I might self-publish these collections, or another avenue might appear. For now, Patreon is where this project will live and grow.
