I wanted to take a moment to touch base and share an update on where my energy has been lately. For the past few months, I’ve been diving deep into a project outside the immediate advocacy space. It’s a venture I’m highly invested in, and my hope is that I’m finally carving out a path toward long-term success and stability.
Reflections on the Past Year
The last year has been a whirlwind of involvement across several different spaces:
- Narcoplexic.com: This independent advocacy space remains my own, and while I intend to keep it going, I’ll be posting a bit more selectively than I did last year to balance my new priorities.
- PWN4PWN: It has been a pleasure serving on their outreach committee and acting as a sort of beta tester and contributor for their programs, in addition to translating some of their flyers and toolkits. After meeting the team in Seattle at the AASM SLEEP 2025 Meeting, I like them and value their mission, but I have to pivot my primary focus toward sustainable professional growth. I’ll continue to work with them in a lighter capacity moving forward.
- Naps For Life: Since the fall, I’ve been contributing monthly guest posts for this nonprofit. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to share my voice on their platform.
- Colorado (CO) Strong Support Group: I’ve also been serving as a co-leader for this group. Beyond leading a few meetings, I had the chance to design a new logo for them. It’s a good, free monthly resource featuring guest doctors, and the community there is incredibly welcoming.
- Podcast Interviews:
The ‘Sleep Science Today‘ interview with Andrew Colsky JD, LPC, LMHC is up on the homepage. The ‘Narcolepsy Navigator’s‘ interview with Kerly Bwoga and Christine Donaghy of Naps for Life, will be releasing sometime this year. And soon, in the next couple or few weeks the ‘Sleep Is My Waking Passion‘ interview with Dr. Alison Kole MD/MPH will be releasing – I’ll post a link on the homepage once it has released.
Broadening the Scope
Lately, my perspective has been focused beyond Narcolepsy and Hypersomnolence. I’ve been looking across the entire spectrum of sleep medicine – exploring the six different categories of sleep disorders.
Learning to view sleep from a general perspective is fascinating, though I’ll admit it’s a challenge not to filter everything through my own lived experience with Narcolepsy, an Idiopathic Central Sleep Apnea, and a Circadian Rhythm disorder too, It’s a constant reminder of just how far “home base” is for a healthy sleeper compared to those of us navigating these disorders.
Looking Ahead
There are several potential professional opportunities on the table that move beyond volunteerism. I’m going “all in” on these efforts to build a place for myself and find the stability I need. While I’m keeping the specifics of my current project low-key for now, I look forward to being more upfront about it when the time is right.
