A Journey Back to My Roots: Nicaragua Bound!
Hey everyone,
Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be embarking on an international adventure to Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
Get ready for some updates from Central America, here!
This trip holds a special place in my heart, especially the time I’ll spend in Nicaragua. It’s been a long eleven years since I last visited in 2013, and while I’m incredibly excited, I also anticipate it being a bit of an emotional journey. I’ll be reuniting with my second family – the wonderful people I stayed with every year from ages 8 to 22. They played a huge role in shaping who I am today, and though I haven’t been great at staying in touch, their influence and the cherished memories we share will always be a part of me.
I’m planning to share my experiences with you all right here on the site! I’ll do my best to post pictures while I’m traveling, so keep an eye out for those. I won’t be on social media during the trip, but once I’m back, I’ll definitely share some highlights there too. Since I’m not bringing my computer or my full camera rig, I’ll be relying on lighter gear, but I’m still hoping to capture some great shots of the local birds and/or wildlife, stunning landscapes, and other interesting sights.
My rough plan is to spend about a week in Costa Rica and a week in Nicaragua, though the exact breakdown might shift.
Wish me luck and safe travels! I’ve taken all the necessary precautions for a comfortable trip: a mosquito net, insect repellent for my clothing, gear, and backpack, plus personal spray and plenty of sunscreen. I’ll be trying my best to avoid too much delicious street food and instead focus on fresh fruit and cooking for myself whenever possible. Battling the heat and getting good sleep will be a challenge, but I’m hopeful the AC wherever I land will be effective! There will likely be some warm nights at the old family home in Posoltega, but I’m optimistic I’ll manage.
While I doubt it, if I find myself completely comfortable and settled, who knows, I might even extend my stay!
Much Love.
